By: Martin | Posted on: Oct 7 2011 at 03:38:29 PM | Hi I'm aregistered user of Comm32 and am just checking on the latest version, I'm a bit confused about what to download?
Has Scomm32 superceeded Comm32?
Cheers

SComm is the newer OCX and is what we would recommend for new projects. It has all the core "MSComm" functionality so can still be used as a quick replacement for MSComm32.
SComm32 has fewer properties than our older Comm32 component so is therefore easier to use especially for new users. The older Comm32 component has a few confusing, very similar and possibly even contradictory properties. A problem that we could only address by replacing them. This forced a name change of the OCX to avoid problems with binary compatibility.
We will continue to maintain and support the older Comm32 component but for new customers we'll mainly offer/promote SComm32.
Your Comm32 activation code will also work with SComm32 so you can use either. The toolbox and IDE icons are slightly different.
